At The Showcase, 16U–18U Divisions Showed What Composure Looks Like

MB Surf, Coast, and PRVA led the charge as older squads delivered championship poise under pressure

SoCal Cup, The Showcase boys volleyball was a thrilling three-day national event that took place at the iconic Los Angeles Convention Center at LA Live. From the 16 Open to the 18 Open divisions, every match showcased why SoCal Cup National Events are the best place to compete!

Here’s a recap of the standout performances that defined the weekend.

MB Surf 18’s 1 ASICS, the reigning champs of the SoCal Cup League, came into the weekend with their sights set on winning a second straight event—The Showcase. After beating the Vegas Aces and Bay to Bay in straight sets, the volleyball community got exactly what they wanted—a rematch between MB Surf and Winter Park Volleyball Club (WPVC).

These teams last met in December, when WPVC left the Winter Formal with the gold. At the end of the first set, it looked like a repeat of their last meeting, as WPVC put themselves just 25 points away from another event win.

The tension was thick as WPVC claimed the first set, pushing MB Surf to the edge of defeat. But, true to their championship form, MB Surf’s star-studded roster wasn’t ready to surrender. Led by Cooper Keane, the division’s MVP, they dug deep and took the second set to force a much anticipated third. The crowd was electric, as every play brought the teams closer to finish. In the decisive third set, MB Surf took control and never let go.

Blake Fahlbusch and Grayson Bradford stepped up with clutch plays that steered MB Surf to victory. With this hard-fought win lighting their fire, MB Surf now sets their sights on the AAU Championships in Orlando, beginning June 29, ready to keep their winning streak alive.

Led by tournament MVP Sam Cook, they took charge of the 18 Club Division, winning five of their first six matches with ease. On Sunday, RCVA kept the momentum going, cruising through their first two games to reach the finals against a strong E3 Volleyball team.

In the championship match, RCVA came out swinging, dominating the first 2 sets. This squad proved they can handle any challenge and is ready to keep their momentum rolling at the AAU Championships in Orlando the coming weeks

On Sunday, PRVA swept three matches to reach the final against NorCal Boys 17-1. The match was a nail-biter, with the first two sets decided by 2 and 3 points, but PRVA’s toughness sealed a tight third-set victory.
